He commenced work as a planner for the Shire of Mundaring before founding Hassell Planning Consultants.

In 1990, Stephen formed Wingate Properties, a successful Kangaroo Point based property development company whose current focus is on South East Queensland’s Western Corridor, where he has three major projects in progress: Bremer Business Park, Swanbank Enterprise Park and Ripley Valley Town Centre. He recently completed the QCL Redevelopment at Darra and the Mile End Homemaker Centre in Adelaide.

Stephen believes in the importance of evolving projects in response to government, council and community expectations. The Western Corridor projects attest to this.
